Despite being constrained by the narrowness of the lot Sam Crawford Architects managed to etch out a cheerful and seemingly spacious modern home by tapping into the vertical room on offer. Original industrial elements of the home were kept intact and enhance while the street façade was left untouched because of the heritage rules. Exposed brick walls define the living area even as dark steel elements industrial-style windows and wooden ceiling beams are intertwined with comfortable modern décor and polished finishes.
A beautiful fireplace with a spot for the stacked firewood next to it and a large window seat that doubles as a tranquil reading nook complete the setting. Clad in concrete wood and steel there is plenty of textural contrast here with form following function closely. A perfect getaway that is both cozy and minimal!
A glass pergola roof connects the main living area with the guest rooms while a central courtyard along with the pool and the garden interlink the separate units. A double height living area opens up to the outdoors with large glass doors and sweeping wooden windows allowing those inside to switch between unabated views and complete privacy.
A smart platform provides solid base for the home and is integrated with the living room fireplace chimney and the concrete seating next to it. The platform extending beyond the confines of the living area acts as a natural patio and connects the interior with the outdoors in a seamless fashion.
